So you want to add apples to your home orchard, but don't have room for multiple trees to cross pollinate? Save room and pollination concerns with the '4-in-1 Cold Climate Apple' created by grafting from an assorted selection of cold-hardy apples. Nearly every apple tree available commercially is propagated by grafting. This is the process of taking a cutting (called a scion) from a known variety or cultivar of apple and attaching it to the stem (called root stock) of another apple in such a way that the scion and root stock form a union. Typically, a single graft is placed on the root stock in such a way that the grafted cultivar becomes the entire tree above the union. But, there is no limit to the number of grafts that can be placed on the root stock to become branches!  This is how you can end up with 3-in-1, 4-in-1, or even more varieties of apples on a single tree. The '4-in-1 Cold Climate Apple' that we offer here consists of RANDOM grafts from the following list: 'Braeburn', 'Cortland', 'Fuji', 'Gala', 'Granny Smith', 'Gravenstein', 'Jonagold', 'Jonathon', 'Melrose', 'Red Delicious', 'Red McIntosh', 'Spartan', 'Yellow Delicious', 'Yellow Transparent', and 'Winesap'.  Four of these varieties are grafted on to a single trunk. We cannot tell you which varieties will be on a particular tree, but we do guaranty there will be four different apples...and that is part of the fun!

This is also an economical way to have a variety of apples in a small space. A 4-in-1 tree costs about half of what planting one each of four varieties would cost and only takes up one-fourth of the space!

USDA Zones 4-8. Self-pollinating.

Available in 7-gallon pots. 5'-7' in height.
