'AFRICAN MARKET BASKETS' Woven Grass Baskets from Ghana

African Market Baskets™ are strong, durable, colorful and entirely hand-made. Each basket is unique and beautiful. These baskets are made from river grass, known as “elephant grass” by local weavers in Bolgatanga, Ghana.

Baskets with leather handles are wrapped in goat skin for comfort and durability. The leather is naturally tanned using local seeds and red millet.

A percentage of the cost of these baskets is donated back to Every Basket Helps, a non-profit organization that:

• provides school supplies for the weavers' children on an annual basis
• organizes and provides health care for the weavers and their families
• maintains a community weaving center that serves two villages and over 400 basket weavers since 2009
• provides mosquito nets to prevent malaria
