'HELICHRYSUM' (Helichrysum italicum)

The 'helichrysum' comes with 100 organically certified seeds per packet. This perennial grows as a potted plant and be brought indoors for the winter. The 'helichrysum' thrives in full sun or part shade in very well-drained soil or rockery. In the spring, sow in pots or flats. Rough up soil surface, scatter seed, tamp securely and keep evenly moist until germination, which occurs in 10 to 20 days. Thin or transplant 2 to feet apart. 

'Helichrysum' is an evergreen shrub sometimes called the curry plant because of the strong smell of its leaves. This plant is sometimes used as a spice with the young shoots and leaves stewed in Mediterranean meat, fish, or vegetable dishes til they have imparted their flavor, and removed before serving. This tender perennial will need winter protection in cold areas and is best grown as an annual below USDA Zone 7.
