'TRUE COMFREY' (Symphytum officinale)

The 'True comfrey' comes with 20 organically certified seeds per packet. This herbaceous perennial is native to Europe. The 'true comfrey' thrives in rich, moist but well-drained soil in part shade or sun. Sow in cool soils of early spring, with germination in 3 to 6 weeks. Or give 30 days refrigeration in moist potting soil in a sealed plastic bag or glass jar and then sow in the garden or in pots. Thin or transplant seedlings 18 inches apart. The 'true comfrey' grows up to 2 feet tall. 

'Bone set' has been used in traditional medicine to treat bruises, sprains, and bone fractures. Used as a poultice, the slurry of the plant and root will dry to a hardened cast, hence its use as a 'bone set'. The tea is used as a traditional remedy to the pain of arthritis and the young plants used as a cooked vegetable.
