Notched, upturned petals like tiny pinwheels are intensely violet-purple. The whimsical starry-flowers will spin their bold shot of color for 4-5 weeks. Light repeat blooming can occur later in the season.
The best of two worlds, these spring charmers have native parentage and beautiful spring performance. Resembling creeping Phlox but blooming a week earlier and with larger notched flowers that blanket a slightly mounded profile. Phlox 'Violet Pinwheels' was developed by Dr. Jim Ault from the Chicago Botanic Garden. A cross of Phlox bifida and Phlox kelseyi, the foliage is soft to the touch and spreads politely for a stunning ground cover.
