'AVALANCHE' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'avalanche')
'AVALANCHE' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'avalanche')
Introduced in 1886, the six-inch, fully-double, waxy, ivory-white blossoms open late mid-season with a faint pink center and occasional narrow crimson edges. The blossoms are compact, generally in-curved with the tips of the outer petals re-curved from its ball-like center. Its fragrance is strong but not sweet. Growing to a height of 35", 'Avalanche' is a fair bloomer with adequate stems and good foliage. A well-regarded white variety for either cutting or garden decoration. It is generally considered identical with ALBÂTRE and is regaining its well-deserved popularity. VERY LIMITED QUANTITIES. (Crousse, 1886). Heirloom.
