'GOLDEN FEATHER' 黄翠羽 Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa 'Huang Cui yu/golden feather')
'GOLDEN FEATHER' 黄翠羽 Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa 'Huang Cui yu/golden feather')
黄翠羽; Huang Cui Yu; GOLDEN FEATHER.
'Huang Cui Yu' also called 'Golden Feather' or 'Golden Gem' has a crown-form blossom composed of pinkish-yellow inner petals surrounded by 2-3 rows of broad, reflexed guard petals of palest-yellow. Each petal is suffused with very-pale pink at the base. There is a whorl of incompletely-petaloid stamen between the outer and the inner petals and very small, petaloid filaments bearing anthers may be present casting a light-green hue. Pistils are also petaloid and greenish colored. Stalks are relatively long, stiff, yellowish-green and hold the flowers upright or lateral. Flowering is in the mid-season. The shrub is of medium height and partially spreading. Branches are stout. Overall growth is vigorous and the plant if very floriferous. (Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze, 1983). Uncommon and unusually colored for a tree peony.
USDA Zones 4-8 would be very successful zones for this peony. It can tolerate somewhat warmer areas than most other peonies. Where they are grown in Shandong, China is similar to the American interior mid-Atlantic and mid-western regions with cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Typical winter low temps are in the teens Fahrenheit with dips into single digits and with summer temps often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bare roots are available for shipping in late-fall and winter only. 3-4 branches. Tree peonies are sold by the branch number and not by the 'eye' as herbaceous and intersectional peonies. Typically, you will find single-branched tree peonies for sale. Ours are much larger and more mature at 3-4 branches. (Sun, 1978).
We do not ship potted peonies.
