'GOLDEN SAND BLACK SEA' 黑海撒金 Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa 'hei hai sha Jin/golden sand black sea')

'Hei Hai Sha Jin' is a fragrant dark-red tree peony. The blossoms are large and loosely filled with notched petals. The flares are nearly black making the eye naturally probe the depths where it is easy to lose oneself in thought. A center of yellow stamen stay cloaked in the crowd of petals but add interest as well. 'Golden Sand Black Sea' will mature to a height of 6' to 8' if allowed to grow freely. USDA Zones 4-9 would be very successful zones for this peony. It can tolerate somewhat warmer areas than most other peonies. Where they are grown in Shandong, China is similar to the American interior mid-Atlantic and mid-western regions with cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Typical winter low temps are in the teens Fahrenheit with dips into single digits and with summer temps often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
