'FRETENSIS' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'fretensis')

'Fretensis' is an early-blooming semi-double blossom that opens pink with light-pink petal edges, then fades to light-pink overall. Flowers are a robust 8" in diameter, upward facing, and average one per stem. Guard petals are frilled and ruffled. Foliage emerges red then turns a dark, healthy green with purple overtones. Growth habit is upright and sturdy making mechanical support unnecessary. Presents good potential for cut-flower production, and is an attractive garden subject. Named for the Roman legion of the same moniker. (Scholten, 2022).
