Very early-blooming SINGLE, cardinal-red, 6-inch flowers are borne one per stem. Guard petals are ruffled, frilled, and pointed. No fragrance noted. Plants reach 34" at maturity, and carry broadly-pointed, emerald-green foliage with undertones of purple. Foliage at time of emergence is red. Growth habit is strongly upright so mechanical support is unnecessary. 'Roman Spears' is a vigorous grower producing an abundance of erect stems. The flower buds carry a distinct pointed appearance reminiscent of spears. Presents good potential for cut-flower production, and is an attractive garden plant. (Scholten, 2022).
