'YELLOW CROWN' 黄冠 Tree Peony (Paeonia x suffruticosa 'huang guan/golden crown')
黄冠; Huang Guan; Yellow (Golden) Crown.
The huge blooms of ‘Huang Guan’ tree peony are a sophisticated, rich buttery-yellow which pairs beautifully with other spring and early-summer garden plantings. In English this peony is known as 'Yellow Crown' or 'Golden Crown' and has a lightly-fragrant nose. Deep withing the center of the flowers lives an orange heart encircling the central boss of golden-stamens helping to make this one of our most vibrant and saturated yellow-colored tree peonies. Pollinators love this peony. Height and spread to 5’. A sophisticated flower.
USDA Zones 4-8 would be very successful zones for this peony. It can tolerate somewhat warmer areas than most other peonies. Where they are grown in Shandong, China is similar to the American interior mid-Atlantic and mid-western regions with cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Typical winter low temps are in the teens Fahrenheit with dips into single digits and with summer temps often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bare roots are available for shipping in late-fall and winter only. 3-4 branches. Tree peonies are sold by the branch number and not by the 'eye' as herbaceous and intersectional peonies. Typically, you will find single-branched tree peonies for sale. Ours are much larger and more mature at 3-4 branches. (Sun, 1978).
We do not ship potted peonies.

My tree peony arrived with five main branches, all with dormant buds and an extensive root system. On arrival it looked a little desiccated, so I soaked it overnight and put it in the ground. Took a bit to leaf out, but when it did, I was very happy to see the amount of growth. I highly recommend any purchase from this company.
