A large-flowered, ruby-red to garnet, fully-double peony of distinguished pedigree. 'Shawnee Chief' is an heirloom variety with fine textured foliage and a sturdy upright habit. The red holds up well even in bright sun and its stiff stems make this a choice variety for cut-flower culture and is one of the better selections for cold storage. Early mid-season bloom time.
