This is for the collectors amongst you. First described in 1843, 'Smoutii' [Smouthii] is a first generation hybrid of P. albiflora vestali and P. tenuifolia. "This wonderful acquisition will stand out in comparison against other herbaceous peonies due to its abundant satiny, bright, dark-cherry colored flowers, its strong fragrance, and its beautiful deeply cut foliage, all of which place it in the same class as P. tenuifolia flora rubra plena." Height to 24" and very early blooming. Rarely seen in the landscape outside of collectors' gardens. EXTREMELY LIMITED QUANTITY. (Smout/van Houtte, 1843).
