'CHRISTMAS VELVET' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'christmas velvet')

Peony 'Christmas Velvet' is a fully-double, true-red hybrid that flowers early in the season. This velvety-textured peony produces 5" blossoms on tall 36"-48" stems successfully in a broad range of growing zones. This makes 'Christmas Velvet' a rising star in the cut-flower peony assortments and in the cottage garden alike. It has become very popular in the Southern Hemisphere where it's natural blooming time coincides with Christmas! (Anderson, 1992).

Bare root 3/5-eye and field stock are available only in late-fall and winter.

Christmas velvet

It came in November since I pre-dug holes in my garden for planting since the ground was starting to freeze I also covered the hole with a big bag of mulch. The root came and looked very healthy, lots of eyes, now I'll wait to see how it winters for a spring bloom.
