'Symbiosis' is a fragrant rose-shaped herbaceous hybrid peony. The full-double 5" blossoms move through a myriad of pinks hues as they mature ranging from a medium pink at bud-break through peach and finally soft blush. Colors may vary from year to year and as the plant itself establishes. Young plants my first present as semi-double. Vigorously grows to 36" with delicate thin stems. This beautiful pink peony is from the city of Heze, (formerly named Caozhou), Shandong Provence, People's Republic of China. This region of China has been cultivating 'Mudan' (tree peonies) for over three thousand years! Herbaceous peonies are a relative new comer having earned their representation in this peony capital only a millenium ago! Champlain Peony Company is pleased to present this lovely 'King of Flowers' from China's ancient peony capital in very limited edition. 'Symbiosis' can also be found sold under various other names including 'Pink From Seed'. 

USDA Zones 3-8 would be very successful zones for this peony. It can tolerate somewhat warmer areas than most other peonies. Where they are grown in Shandong, China is similar to the American interior mid-Atlantic and mid-western regions with cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. Typical winter low temps are in the teens Fahrenheit with dips into single digits and with summer temps often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Blooms in the late mid-season.
