'MOLLY THE WITCH' Daurica Peony (Paeonia daurica subsp. mlokosewitchii)

Just call her 'Molly the Witch'. This fabled peony is a choice species from the Caucasus region with impossible-to-improve-upon single goblets for flowers. Color variation is accepted and expected within this taxonomy so while yellow is a 'standard' for this peony, you may be blessed with variant hues. Nonetheless, she is still 'Molly the Witch'. The red new growth in spring evokes some avant garde asparagus shoots. This was formerly the species P. mlokosewitschii but Hong has reduced it to a subspecific rank under P. daurica in his daunting 2008 monograph on the genus. 'Mlokosewitschii' will take some time to adjust to its new sighting, so give it undisturbed time and you will be handsomely rewarded. A lovely woodland or rock garden specimen. You will fall in love with 'Molly the Witch'.(Lomakin, 1897; Hong, 2020). Heirloom.
