'PINK VANGUARD' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'pink vanguard')
'PINK VANGUARD' Peony (Paeonia x lactiflora 'pink vanguard')
The blossoms of 'Pink Vanguard' are semi-double to fully-double on mature plants and of a large size. Flowers open a cool medium-pink with color quickly fading to shell-pink in the sun. Broad guard petals surround a center of loosely clustered stamens with slender, feathery segments interspersed. Segments near the blossoms center may have red accents. Flowers are notably resistant to late freeze damage and side buds lengthen boom period. A very satisfying plant habit with vigorous and excellent growth, a reliable early-season bloomer. Strong, erect stems are well clothed in broad leaflets of deep bluish-green, remaining attractive into the fall. Stems may arch with rain when in flower. This variety is well suited for the perennial border as well as the cutting garden. (Seidl/Hollingsworth, 2005).
